The problem

Most organisations do not have a cloud problem; they have a cloud bill problem and a reliability problem that nobody owns. Environments grow one project at a time, oversized resources stay switched on, and traffic is served from regions far from customers. The result is a cost line that rises every quarter, latency that users feel, and outages that land on the board agenda. Executives need someone who can read the invoice and the architecture together, and who can change both without putting the business at risk.

How I approach it

  1. Cost forensics first. I trace spend back to workloads, owners and usage patterns, so every saving is tied to a specific decision rather than a blanket cut that comes back to bite.

  2. Right-size and govern. Compute, storage and networking are resized to real demand, and tagging, budgets and guardrails keep the savings from eroding once the project ends.

  3. Move workloads closer to users. Where latency matters, I plan region migrations and CDN strategy that run alongside live traffic, with rollback at every step and zero impact on users.

  4. Codify everything. Infrastructure is managed in Terraform, so the improved state is reviewable, repeatable and cannot drift back to the old one.

  5. Design for failure. Multi-zone architecture, health checks and clear runbooks turn reliability from an aspiration into a measurable service level that the business can plan around.

  6. Make cost visible to leadership. A simple monthly view of spend, savings and unit cost per product lets finance and technology leaders steer together instead of discovering surprises at quarter end.

Outcomes

  • 51% reduction in Azure infrastructure cost at a state-owned enterprise, with projected savings of USD 50,000 a year.
  • USD 5,800 a month saved on AWS at a fintech company, alongside resolving complex Amazon EKS networking issues.
  • 50% lower API latency for regional users through a region migration delivered with zero user impact.
  • Across InfraLoka client platforms, uptime lifted from 90% to 99%.
