DevOps & Platform Engineering
Infrastructure as code, CI/CD and internal platforms that let engineering teams release faster with fewer incidents, and that keep working after the consultants leave.
The problem
When infrastructure is built by hand, every environment becomes slightly different, every release depends on a few people who remember how things work, and every audit turns into an archaeology project. Delivery slows down exactly when the business wants to move faster. Leaders see it as missed deadlines, rising headcount requests and incidents after releases; engineers see it as toil. The fix is not another tool but a platform with clear standards that teams adopt because it makes their work easier.
How I approach it
Standardise on infrastructure as code. Terraform becomes the single way infrastructure is created and changed, so every change is reviewed, versioned and reproducible across environments.
Migrate without a freeze. Existing estates, including CloudFormation stacks, are moved to Terraform incrementally, service by service, while teams keep shipping.
Publish reusable building blocks. A central Terraform module registry gives teams approved patterns for networks, clusters and databases, so good defaults spread without extra meetings.
Automate the path to production. CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions and blue/green deployment let teams release during working hours and roll back in minutes.
Remove toil systematically. Repetitive operational work is measured, ranked and automated, freeing engineers for the projects the business is waiting on.
Measure delivery like a business metric. Deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate and recovery time are tracked from the pipeline, so leaders can see whether the platform investment is paying off.
Outcomes
- An enterprise-wide CloudFormation-to-Terraform migration and a centralised Terraform module registry at a Vietnam-based organisation.
- GitHub Actions pipelines for blue/green deployments at scale.
- Terraform introduced as the infrastructure-as-code standard at a state-owned enterprise, with 10,000 engineering hours a year projected to be saved through automation.
- Recognised as the Terraform subject-matter expert in a fintech engineering organisation.
